Healthy Smiles for Your Child's Future: Children's Dental Health Guide

When it comes to our children's health, everything stops. However, unfortunately, dental health is often neglected with the thought that "baby teeth will fall out anyway." Yet, a healthy childhood is the foundation of a healthy smile that will last a lifetime.

At Esin Dental, we care about our little heroes sitting in the dentist's chair not with fear, but with curiosity and joy. In this article, we answered the most frequently asked questions about children's dental health.

Don't say "Baby Teeth will fall out anyway"!

One of the biggest misconceptions in our society is that baby teeth are unimportant because they are temporary. This is completely wrong. Because baby teeth:

1. **Nutrition:** Allows the child to chew the necessary nutrients correctly for growth.

2. **Speech:** Is critical for the correct pronunciation of letters and speech development.

3. **Guidance:** Acts as a "space maintainer" for the permanent teeth that will follow.

Early extraction of baby teeth due to decay can cause your child to need serious orthodontic treatments (braces) in the future.

When Should the First Dentist Examination be Performed?

As the World Health Organization and dentists, our recommendation is: "First tooth, first appointment." Generally, with the eruption of the first baby tooth (approximately between 6 months and 1 year), you should introduce your baby to the dentist.

The purpose of these early-age visits is not treatment, but meeting. In this way, your child does not experience "white coat fear" and sees the dentist as a "playmate."

Prevent Cavities Before They Form: Preventive Treatments

The most applied and recommended treatments for children in our Esin Dental clinic are within the scope of "Preventive Dentistry." Instead of treating decay after it has formed, we aim to prevent it from forming.

1. Fissure Sealant (Tooth Vaccine)

Deep depressions and ridges on the chewing surfaces of molars cannot be fully cleaned by brushing, and most cavities start here. With the fissure sealant process, these grooves are closed with a special filling material (without abrading the tooth). It is completely painless and reduces the risk of decay by up to 80%.

2. Fluoride Application

Fluoride is applied to tooth surfaces at certain intervals to strengthen tooth enamel and make it resistant to acids. This process is like putting armor on teeth.

Golden Tips for Parents

- **Watch Out for Bottle Decay:** Do not put your baby to sleep with honeyed milk, fruit juice or sugary foods at night. These liquids stay on the tooth surface and lead to rapidly spreading "bottle decay."

- **Be an Example:** Children do not do what you say, they do what you do. Make it a game by brushing your teeth with your child.

- **Do Not Scare:** Do not scare your child by saying "If you misbehave, I will give you an injection" or "I will take you to the dentist." This can make the treatment process impossible in the future.
